Preseason Checklist

It is time to start thinking about the fall and the 2019 Girls Swim Season. We are looking forward to another year of fast swimming, hard work, and fun!  The minimum requirements for joining the team include:  Have at least a 2.0 GPA, swim 100 yards crawl stroke with side breathing and 100 yards backstroke.  You must also make a commitment to have a positive attitude throughout the season, be at all workouts on time, ready to put in your best effort, and to stay with the team the entire season. During the first week of workouts you will be given a contract to sign that will explain the team expectations and the consequences for not abiding by the contract.  Swimming is a non-cut sport, but we do expect that each athlete gives her best each and every day.

The first practice will be Monday, August 26th.  Practices held before the start of the school year will run from 9:00am-12:00pm (first hour is dry-land).  Practices held during the school week will usually be held from 2:15-4:15pm. Saturday practices will usually be held from 7:30-10:45am (last hour is dry-land).

Coaches will select about 16 athletes who should plan on additional practices, including mornings and weight training. Morning practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, before school.

The following is a list of items that will need to be taken care of prior to our first practice on Monday, August 26th.

1)  Make sure your name, phone #, and e-mail address are on the sign-up sheet so that we can contact you during the summer for fundraisers and other information.  We would also like your parents e-mail address so they can be included on team communication.

2)  Prior to Monday, August 26th:

All parents must complete an athletic packet online

Go to www.upsd83.org --> Click “Curtis HS” --> Click “Athletics” --> Click “Athlete Registration” --> Complete the directions to sign up for Girls Swim and Dive

- Athletes must purchase an ASB Card

- Submit a current sports physical to the high school office (most are good for 2 years)

- Pay/clear all fines through school office

- Curtis High School Viking Days this summer are:  August 20th and 21st

  1. Information about the girls swim team can be found on our team website. Go to the UPSD website and select Curtis Aquatic Center under the “District Services” tab, then click on High School Swim/Water Polo and choose Girls Swim/Dive Team.

  2. Start thinking about the season! The more you can do now, the more successful your season will be. Exercise and train so you can begin the season with a good base! Anything helps, and remember - aerobic capacity is transferable. If you are a returning athlete, think about what goals you have for next season and what it will take to meet them. If this will be your first season, start thinking about what kind of athlete you want to become!
