Team Policies

Attendance:

Attendance is a requirement. We want all members of the team to respect the commitment they have made to the program, their teammates, and their coaches.

- School work, test make-up, and other activities need to be scheduled for times outside of practice.

- Sickness- Students are expected to come to practice if they are attending school throughout the day. If a swimmer stays home from school because of illness, they will not be required to attend practice.

- Appointments- If an athlete will be missing practice due to a doctor appointment, a written note from the doctor will be required to be excused from practice.

- To ensure team success and integrity, athletes will be held to a strict discipline policy. If athletes miss an unexcused practice, they will be on a corresponding discipline level:

- 1st level (1 absence): Warning and events taken away at next meet.

- 2nd level (Probation Period): 2 week period, athletes must attend all practices and meets during probation period. Athletes must have a hardworking and positive attitude during team events. Any missed practice, poor attitude, or negative contributions to team will result in dismissal from team.

- 3rd level: Dismissal from team.

- An athlete must attend the day before a meet in order to be eligible to swim in the meet. If absent, an athlete will not be entered into the meet but is required to attend to help teammates. In order to participate in the first meet, athletes need 10 days of practice.

- Communication is key. The early and more coaches know of a potential conflict or issue, the more willing and able they will be to help find a solution. Remember, your coaches want to see you succeed!

Meet Behavior:

- We represent Curtis High School and will reflect the pride we have in our school and for each other, at all times. Any behavior that takes away from the group and places unnecessary focus on an individual, will not be tolerated.

- Again, to participate in the first meet, each athlete must have participated in at least 10 days of practice.

- Meet attendance is required for all athletes, regardless if an athlete is competing, or not.

- Meets run approximately 3 hours. During that time, athletes are expected to be engaged in competition, warming up/cooling down, and supporting teammates.

- Athletes must be present, on deck, in swim attire until the end of the meet, even if they are done with their individual events.

- Post-Season meets (Qualifiers, SPSL, Districts, State meets) are not voluntary meets. All athletes will compete in at least 1 post-season meet depending on time standards that are achieved. Post-season meets will occur after regular season meets are completed.

Sportsmanship:

- Every athlete will abide by the sportsmanship rules as stated by the University Place School District and the 4A South Puget Sound League (SPSL). We, as a team, will treat every team, coach, and athlete with respect and display positive public actions at all times.

- Any athlete who does not follow these standards will be subject to team discipline and WIAA policy.
